11.00 Welcome and update from St Swithun's - Jane Gandee, Headmistress

11.15 Opportunity to chat with your school friends through our 'breakout rooms' (Old Girls will be grouped together and assigned rooms based on the years they left school)

11.45 Return to main online meeting room

11.50 Take a virtual tour around one or more of the Boarding Houses

12.00 Break for your lunch at home. Music will be provided by St Swithun's students

Take Part in Old Girls' Day Virtual Choir

We have chosen the popular hymn

Jerusalem
Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848-1918)
Words by William Blake (1757-1827)

Things you'll need:

1. Music score and backing track (see bottom of this message). We have also provided the lyrics all on one sheet.
2. Two devices (e.g. laptop to play the backing track and a phone to record on)
3. Earphones (you need to be able to hear the backing track when you're recording, but it must be inaudible on the recording you send in)
4. A quiet space in which you won't be disturbed (it doesn't matter if there's the odd 'off-stage' noise when you're recording though)

Step 1
Download the music score and backing track to your computer (see bottom of this message) and plug your earphones into the computer.

Step 2
Listen to the backing track through your earphones and get used to singing along by practising your part. The hymn begins with a short piano introduction.

Step 3
When you're ready to record, make sure that you press play on the backing track and record on your phone at exactly the same time.
Wait for the piano introduction or count in and then start to sing.
NB have the backing track loud enough so that you can still hear it whilst singing at normal volume. This will ensure that voice and accompaniment remain together. If you make a small slip, then it's fine to keep going as long as it hasn't stopped you. For more serious mistakes, you'll need to start again.
Step 4
When you're happy with your recording, please email to Kelly Carr on OGA@stswithuns.com as an MP3 file.

The deadline is 5.00pm on Monday 7 September. This will allow us time to edit all your contributions together, ready for Old Girls' Day on the Saturday of that week. It looks complicated when it's all written down, but it's actually quite straightforward and you'll get the hang of it very quickly.

It will be wonderful to hear everyone's voices singing joyfully together.

Joining Instructions for Old Girls' Day
In order to take part in this virtual Old Girls' Day, we ask whether you are able to first download Zoom onto your device (PC, IPad or phone) please. This is free.

Please note that St Swithun’s cannot insist that you download Zoom, but if you are comfortable downloading Zoom and choose to do so, it will enable you to join in with this Old Girls’ Day.

Select ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ and click Download - then follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

The Old Girls Day 2020 Zoom Link you will need to join the reunion event (after you have downloaded Zoom) will be emailed to you following registration. Scroll down to the very bottom of the email and it will be in small font next to 'Link:'

On the day (Saturday 12 Sep. 11am), just click on the link to join our first ever virtual Old Girls' Day!

Important: When joining the meeting, please enter your full name when prompted so we can recognise you and will be able to group you together with others from your Leaving Year.
