A passionate advocate of India, Aline will explore
the Trade Routes to India through millennia, self-confessing to taking ‘a gallop’ through early Indian history, Scottish connections, and ending up in modern India (to where she returns regularly to promote tourism). She writes to the OGA “I return to India annually, almost a child of India, being born there, grew up there (I used to fly back and forth to St Swithun’s for holidays), and I know modern India and where India wants to be. I talked it over with the Consul of India and they fully backed my ideas. The Past is respected, but Now and the Future is what this great country is concentrating upon. My talk is all of 40 minutes, I had to bring it down and concentrate because I start in 3000 BCE and continue until the present day, showing the importance of trade then and now, all through empires and dynasties – a gallop through the past to get to the now!”
About PROJECT MALA
PROJECT MALA seeks out working children in remote villages of eastern Uttar Pradesh, India and gives them quality education in four R’s, reading, writing, arithmetic and respect; respect for others and the environment as well as self-respect in personal hygiene good manners.
PROJECT MALA is governed by the National Institute of Open Schooling who provide certification at grade five level and grade eight level so children passing out can progress into further education. In addition the project also provides some training in life sciences cooking, gardening, sewing etc. in order for them to make the most of their lives within the primitive environment of their rural village.
